Who we are
Your local mental health and wellbeing charity
Our mission and vision
Milton Keynes Mind has been supporting the people in the new city for over 40 years, providing information, advice, support and inspiration to people who have experienced mental ill health and supporting positive well being across our whole community.
Local run, we are affiliated to Mind nationally which means that we have the flexibility to design support to meet local needs whilst having the experience and knowledge of the national organisation when necessary.
We are managed by a Board of Trustees, who are local people with an interest in mental health and have specific knowledge, skills and experience to support the work we do. The board is entirely voluntary and they support the operations of the charity.
Here in Milton Keynes, we believe that we have the chance to build a city where positive mental health and wellbeing are at the heart of all we do. We have a chance to create ambition, inspiration, design and support as the city develops, focusing on the things that matter.
Our mission is:
To support, advise, inspire and create an organisation that works with everyone in our community to promote positive mental health and wellbeing, reduce stigma and discrimination and enable everyone to play as fuller part in their community as they wish.
Our vision is:
A city where positive mental health and wellbeing is embedded in all aspects of city life, where all members are valued and supported and diversity and difference is embraced and valued.
Mind nationally
Mind's vision nationally is:
Our vision is of a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all, and that treats people with experience of mental distress fairly, positively and with respect.
The needs and experiences of people with mental distress drive our work and we make sure their voice is heard by those who influence change.
Our independence gives us the freedom to stand up and speak out on the real issues that affect daily lives.
We provide information and support, campaign to improve policy and attitudes and, in partnership with independent local Mind associations, develop local services.
We do all this to make it possible for people who experience mental distress to live full lives, and play their full part in society.
We are working to:
Change society: Mind influences and changes public attitudes and government policy and practice towards people with mental distress.
Provide support: Mind helps people to take control over their mental health. We do this to make it possible for people who experience mental distress to live full lives, and play their full part in society.
Give people a voice: The needs and experiences of people with mental distress drive our work and we make sure their voice is heard. We will champion the right of people with direct experience of mental distress to have a voice and be heard.
Create mentally healthy communities: Mind works with the local Mind association network and other partners to improve the delivery of services for people experiencing mental distress.
