About Milton Keynes Mind

Who we are and what we do!

Milton Keynes Mind is the local mental health and wellbeing charity, supporting Milton Keynes and the surrounding area. We have been here for over 40 years and over that time have helped thousands of people gain and maintain positive mental health.

We are part of the Mind network - this means that we link into Mind nationally and work alongside other local Mind groups, but we are an independent organisation working purely for and in Milton Keynes. We have our own board of Trustees (who manage the charity), raise our own money (there's never enough!) and decide with our members what we want to do. This means that we can respond to local needs and work in a way the truly supports the people of the New City.

Our mission is

'To support, advise, inspire and create an organisation that works with everyone in our community to promote positive mental health and wellbeing, reduce stigma and discrimination and enable everyone to play as fuller part in their community as they wish'.

Our vision is

'A city where positive mental health and wellbeing is embedded in all aspects of city life, where all members are valued and supported and diversity and difference is embraced and valued'.

We work in a number of different ways to help achieve these aims, through our direct work with people, through training and education, through campaigning and through working with other policy and decision makers to help ensure a focus on mental health and wellbeing.

We have 5 main areas within the organisation:

- Counselling

- Direct support

- Education and training

- Campaigns

- Governance

The organisation is managed by a board of Trustees (who also act as Company Directors, as MK Mind is a company limited by guarantee). They support the Director (or Chief Executive) who oversees the day-to-day running of the organisation and the Director then manages the Service Managers.

We work extensively with volunteers (well over 50 across the organisation) and with other local groups such as Richmond Fellowship, Rethink, Women and Work, Volunteer Centre, Community Action, etc.

The current staffing is:

Trustees (a wide variety of backgrounds, each of whom brings specialist knowledge and enthusiasm to the role).

Director - Steve McNay

Counselling Manager - Pat Ford

Direct Support Manager - Sue Varley

Finance and Admin Manager - Katy Preen

Education and Training - currently managed by the Director

Campaigns - Jon MacPherson (Volunteer - includes User Involvement)
